You know, if you were wondering about that.
Case in point:
I rearranged my office yesterday. It took me 4 or 5 tries to find a way to make it look right, and over 2 hours. And now I’m baffled by a huge, blank wall.
Isn’t there something about spring that makes you want to rearrange furniture? This doesn’t only happen to me, right? Anyway. Yesterday, I had the worst sinus headache that wouldn’t go away no matter what I took for it or how much caffeine I drank. I really should have worked out but copped out on account of feeling like my head was going to explode… and instead I decided to rearrange my office and REALLY clean it. Which actually did not help the headache either but it made me happy anyway.
Before, my desk was facing a wall, in a corner and apparently that restricts/blocks your personal energy according to Feng Shui. Eh, whatever. I just don’t like staring at a wall, ok? So I basically just moved the desk out and rotated everything on it so now I face the room. Here’s how my office looks now:
Um, I’d totally show you a ‘before’ picture if I’d thought to take one. I didn’t though, so you just have to trust me that this is way better. Because it is. Yes, yes, I need to organize the junk on the shelves. I’ll get to that. Eventually. Probably.
So now I have a more workable area. It’s easier to get to the shelves by my desk and I can look right out the window while I sit here and space out instead of getting anything done. See?
Ok so now here’s the part where I’m kind of stumped. I have a huge, blank blue wall behind me. I’ve really got to get something on there. I was thinking something like this (this is from Uppercase Living):
It’s almost 5 ft tall. I think it could look cool there. But it’s also $100 so that’s a pretty big commitment to make to a chunk of vinyl I’m not really sure that I love.
Help?
You’ve probably heard of the show on TLC called Extreme Couponing.
I’ll be honest. I’ve only seen bits of two episodes.
I’m not really a fan of extreme couponing. Either the show or the practice. And before some couponing guru hops on here and screeches at me, let me explain why.
First of all, from what I’ve seen in the show and from learning about extreme couponing online, it seems that the best deals are on junk food. Hamburger Helper, hot dogs, frozen pizzas, sugary juices, cookies, candy, etc. And the cereal… oh, the cereal. And it’s sugary cereal more often than not. Now, I’m not gonna say that my family never eats these things (except Hamburger Helper… NO. Just, NO. *shudder*) but we eat them pretty rarely. So it’s not really doing my family justice to save money buying foods that we wouldn’t normally eat anyway.
Hey, look on the bright side: the money these couponers are saving can be applied toward their healthcare costs later on in life when this horrible eating catches up with them!
Secondly, and this one really bothers me, it seems that on the show, they’re showing couponers clear off shelves by buying all the product there and using a bunch of the same coupon over again. Like the one where the lady had 70 mustards. WHO NEEDS 70 MUSTARDS?! Do they even care about the average shopper that only uses coupons as needed, and NEEDS mustard, and intended to use that coupon to just buy one or two mustards? I’ve BEEN that shopper and it’s really freaking annoying.
Third- the stockpiling. This, I’ve got mixed feelings on. If they’re buying a million of something and then are going to donate it to shelters or send it to the troops, as I have seen a guy on that show do, then it’s not so big a deal. But when you have 50 boxes of cereal in your pantry, there’s no way you are going to be able to eat them all before the expiration date. If you have 30 boxes of cold medicine in your cabinet, there’s no way you’re going to have enough colds to use them up before they pass their date. Stockpiling things that can’t go bad is one thing… but stockpiling things that do have a use by date makes no sense to me. (And again, I’d just like to stress that if these items are being donated obviously I am totally cool with that.)
And fourth… well, this: TLC ‘looking into’ allegations of coupon fraud on ‘Extreme Couponing’.
So… am I against couponing? Of course not! I love to save a buck as much as the next gal. And I do use coupons regularly (and legally!). But I do not agree with eating a diet of all processed, sugary, fatty, salty foods in order to save money, nor do I agree with accruing things you don’t want or use just because they were cheap or free.

You may recall my Wal-Mart swing set fiasco of last year? Yes, well, up yours Wal-Mart. We found this on sale for $200 off the regular price on Costco’s website, ordered it near the end of February, and here it is all constructed and in our backyard just a couple weeks later.
Costco… you ROCK.
It’s made by Gorilla Playsets and we are very impressed with the quality. It’s super sturdy and was fairly easy to put together. I mean, it took Tim about 5 or 6 hours of work but the directions were clear and easy to understand. It even has a sandbox in the bottom (we just need to buy sand for it and figure out a way to put a cover on it so it doesn’t wind up being a giant neighborhood cat box).
My kids are thrilled. Now, um, it just needs to stop raining and/or snowing so they can play on it.
One of the many joys of living in a small town is that whenever you want to see a specialist, you have to go out of town- usually to Elko, which is 140 miles east or Reno, which is 170 miles west. I know, it actually sounds like a pain in the ass- and it is in some ways. But it’s also a good excuse to go shopping! We really don’t have much in the way of clothing stores here (not even a JC Penney!) so pretty much any excuse to go to Reno is a good one.
So when my BFF asked me to go with her to Reno so she could see her doctor, I jumped at the chance. After all, with my recent surgery and weight loss, I’ve been really wanting to dress better- and I’ve been needing new clothes that don’t hang or fall off or have holes (OLD NAVY I AM LOOKING AT YOU. What is up with the cheap quality of your shirts lately?!)
It had been so nice here, unseasonably nice. Sixty degrees and sunny and pretty.. which is so not normal for a northern Nevada February. So someone tell me, why is it that as soon as I have an opportunity to shop for new clothes…. WHY does it do this?!
That would be sideways blowing snow and rain mix on the freeway.
By the way, we did go to her appointment and lunch and then headed back home to stay in front of another storm that was moving in. We got home safe and didn’t die or anything but.. we also didn’t get to shop. Stupid weather.
I woke up with a headache and sore throat and chest congestion this morning. I’ll be totally honest with you, I’m being lazy. I think the circumstances warrant it today.
So while my kids are parked in front of Sesame Street for a minute (ZOMG TV ROTS BRAINZZZZ) I am browsing around on etsy. A little retail therapy never hurt anyone! (I mean… other than in the wallet. Because, seriously, just TRY browsing around on here and not finding 9348348230 things you like!)
Some of my favorite finds today:

OWL PURSE! So totally cute. Actually, everything from XcessRize is cute like whoa. Like this or THIS!! Oh, yes.
Ok, now. For the kids…

EEEE! So cute. I’ve bought from Tiddlywinks before, gifts for a friend’s kids- and I can tell you firsthand, their work is incredible. They were the absolute cutest dolls I have ever seen. They also do these little mini playsets where you can dress up the doll in different outfits. Hailey would so dig that.
And wouldn’t your little angel look adorable wearing this?

I’m not just partial to this because it’s made by my friend Leila (that I went to California with? Remember?) of Jaylie Bean’s. It is quite literally the cutest thing ever. (Leila also runs JuJuBaju which has equally excellent things for women, like cosmetic bags and slippers.)
Now, something for the home:

How about these cute fabric storage bins from Sewing Mama? I really, really, really love this idea! We have those stupid big plastic storage bins and they break all the time, plus they’re so ugly. These are so much cuter and they come in tons of designs.
What better way to show your best friend you love her than giving her your hot dog? Yeah, that sounded kinda dirty, huh? Ok, here’s what I really meant:

Hamburger and hot dog best friends necklace set from Pumpkin Pye Boutique. These crack me up! They’ve got other things besides food accessories, but their stuff like chocolate chip cookie earrings, pancake necklaces, and peanut butter and jelly best friend necklaces are the absolute best! This is the solution if you have a hard-to-buy-for friend, for sure.
Speaking of gifts…

I know that I would love to receive a journal. I am big into paper journaling, and this is such a pretty one. Watermark Bindery is such a neat shop, and they also do photo albums and guest books.
One more, because this is the best shop EVER.

Terri Taylor Design makes the absolute funniest greeting cards, tags, recipe cards, and notepads! (Be warned, some are for ‘mature audiences’ due to language. I’ll admit, I laugh hardest at those ones.) And it’s not limited to just funny stuff either, they do have ‘normal’ stationery as well.
So there you go. Those are just some of the many ways you can spend your money on etsy. Now, hop to it!
