OK, wow, has it actually been five whole days?! What have I been doing this past week? Well, there was lots of cooking, a trip to the ER, lots of sewing, and Keegan officially became a big boy.
My cousin came for the weekend and we spent a lot of time cooking, it was really fun. I love cooking and she wanted to learn how to make some simple things. And we made naughty things like cinnamon rolls and quiche.
On Saturday, Tim was prescribed a muscle relaxer for his back and he took it before bed. Within two hours, he had a bad migraine and was throwing up. He wound up in the ER, dehydrated. They gave him an IV and some medicines for his head and nausea. That was a long night. And now, I am sick again with the chest congestion/cough stuff. I am not thrilled about that at all, I was only well for a week before getting sick again.
On the plus side, the fabric for Keegan’s quilt got here yesterday and I already have the quilt about 1/3 of the way done. I have the curtains totally done, and they look adorable. I can’t wait to get the whole room finished!!
And lastly, we were able to get rid of one more piece of baby equipment- the high chair! Doesn’t he look like such a big boy sitting in that booster? I listed the high chair on freecycle and it was claimed and picked up within about an hour of listing it. It surprised me that I was actually a little sad to see it go. We bought it when Hailey was a baby, so it’s been around for a while. Each time I get rid of something like that, it reminds me that once my baby isn’t a baby anymore, I will have no more babies ever. Hm.
Yesterday was a lazy day. We didn’t leave the house. We didn’t even change out of our pajamas! Tim was home, and we all just sat around and watched it snow. That is my neighbor’s tree. Yeah, I stand inside and take pictures out my window of the house across the street. That’s pretty creepy, isn’t it? They just have a really pretty tree, ok?
Actually, I spent most of the day sewing. This is the bag that I made for Crystal, for winning my little trivia game. (It was my dryer, in case you missed that post! And it’s fixed now, it wound up just being the belt. I didn’t even know dryers wore belts! *snicker*) Anyway, I made this crazy bag for Crystal and she better like it or else. Crystal, I mailed it out to you today and you should be getting it in 2-3 days. I also made a little diaper holder thingie, the idea for which I totally came up with all by myself. It came out OK, not wonderful. I need some practice. And I made a coin purse that for some reason did not want to be sewn (sewed? um?) right and I said unsavory words at it a lot of times and it made me be rude to Tim and then it turned out crappy anyway. I hate it. I might burn it. So yeah, I am a sewer. By that, I mean that I sew stuff, not that lots of poop and toilet paper float around inside me.
So here’s what we woke up to this morning! (Yes, I was up when it was still dark out. I can’t even blame Keegan, as usual, I just couldn’t sleep. I think I was too excited over snow!) Naturally, Hailey wanted to go out in it and play like rightnow. Instead, we ate a leisurely breakfast, then we went to Wal-Mart to get $5340234 of stuff, including snow clothes for the kids. Wal-Mart here doesn’t carry snow suits in baby sizes, FYI.

So then there was the 30 minutes of putting on layer after layer of clothing to get ready to go outside. Hailey was excited, Keegan was NOT amused. He sort of just layed there all stiff like “WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO ME?!?!?!?”

We finally headed outside to play! Keegan loved being pulled on the sled, but he kept on falling off and doing face plants in the snow when he’d sit up so we discovered he was better off laying down. This was his first time in the snow and he had a good time. We tried to make a snowman but the snow was just too fluffy. Both kids cried when we had to come in.
And now I must go clean up a big pile of wet clothes from the kitchen floor. Oh, joy.
I just stumbled across a bunch of hate blogs aimed at the Gosselins (from the show on TLC Jon & Kate + 8, the people with twins and sextuplets) and the Duggars (from the show 17 Kids and Counting). I just can’t fathom hating someone so much that you obsessively watch their show and then create a blog to slam them. There are things on TV that I don’t like too, but I’ve found that just not watching them takes a lot less time/energy. Meh, whatever. We all have our hobbies, I guess.
SPEAKING OF HOBBIES… (That was a weird lead-in, wasn’t it?) Without further ado, here is my first sewing project from my brand new sewing machine! Prepare to be impressed. (Click the pictures to see bigger versions.)
It is a travel art kit for Hailey. I made it for her to use on the plane in December. I got the basic idea from this travel art portfolio from a seller on etsy, but modified it to be even more awesome. I tried making little slots like that one, to hold each individual marker and pencil and it just didn’t work. Hailey couldn’t get them in and out.
It holds 7 markers (was supposed to hold 8, but… um… measuring issue. Hahahaha! Shhh, it was my first time.), a pencil sharpener (or as Hailey says, a pencinil sharpener), 12 colored pencils, a notebook, a magnet playset, stickers, and a small composition book. It folds in 3 and velcros shut and has handles to carry. There is also a pocket on the front. I am going to make a little bag or something to carry her crayons too.
Isn’t that the cutest fabric ever? It’s flannel. I actually bought it meaning to make it into pajama pants for Hailey a long time ago, but I couldn’t resist it for this project. I love it.
I am so proud of myself! I can’t wait to start my next projects. I need to make her crayon bag and then I am going to try making patchwork curtains for Keegan’s room.
If you haven’t heard of etsy, you really should go check it out. It’s a huge collection of sellers offering handmade items. There is all kinds of really cute, inventive, beautifully made stuff. I recently ordered some things from a few sellers there, including a super adorable cupcake print tote bag. (I would take a picture of it but I am afraid my bum is glued to the couch this morning.)
In other news, my son is clearly a genius because he told me that he pooped in his diaper the other day and then pointed to his butt and ran into his room and wanted up on the changing table. If that is not a sign of a sky-high IQ, I don’t know what is! I’m calling mensa.
Also, it should be noted that I bought a sewing machine yesterday. Yep, I sew now. LOOK OUT MARTHA! I am working on a project- I actually worked on it most of the day yesterday. Lucky for me, Tim knows how to use a sewing machine (thread the bobbin and all that technical stuff) and showed me. Thank goodness for ex-boyscout husbands! Here is an important lesson for you: velcro goes HOOKY SIDE FACING OUT. (Shut up.) Pictures of said project forthcoming, once it is finished.
