Mommy Makeovers: get your pre-baby body back!

You may at some point or another have heard about something that is called a “mommy makeover” and wondered what exactly it was. In fact, the mommy makeover is the playful, affectionate term that some people use to describe post pregnancy plastic surgery in women. Unfortunately, along with the pure joy of bringing a child into our world come certain bodily sacrifices that are natural results of pregnancy. Obviously, women gain lot of weight during pregnancy. However, many do not realize until they have actually birthed a child themselves just how lasting some of the negative physical side effects can be. This is why many new mothers turn to “mommy makeovers” to help reconstruct their bodies. The following is a list of some of the specific issues that new mothers sometimes have with their post pregnancy bodies, and what procedures can help:

1.) Changes In Breasts- Women’s breasts can be some of the most affected parts of her body during and following a pregnancy. Many women find that the shape and feel of their breasts are never the same once they have gone through pregnancy. Fortunately, there are numerous procedures (detailed on sites like About Plastic Surgery), known as breast augmentation surgeries, designed to help with these concerns. Breast augmentation is not only about enlarging the breasts, as many people believe. It can also be a helpful reconstructive surgery.

2.) Lingering Excess Fat- While a large portion of the weight gained during pregnancy disappears upon the birth of the child, there is often a good bit of lingering excess weight that a woman will want to get rid of. Many women find this weight extremely difficult to lose naturally, and decide in the end to undergo liposuction surgeries. Liposuction, quite simply, removes the excess fats from the body, helping a woman to drop back toward her pre-pregnancy weight.

3.) Excess Skin- In many cases, as weight is lost following a pregnancy, the skin is looser as a result of having been stretched during the weight gaining process. Loose skin can give the appearance of aging and of being out of shape, leading many women to seek surgical removal procedures. These procedures (such as tummy tucks and lifts) simply remove excess skin from the body, allowing a woman to maintain a tight, youthful form.

If you have recently given birth to a new baby and find yourself struggling with bodily issues like the ones listed above, there is no shame whatsoever in looking into plastic surgery. Your body has been through an incredible ordeal, and it is only natural to want your appearance to go back to the way it used to be. Do your research and find a doctor that you can trust, and your post pregnancy body could look almost exactly as it used to.

Vlog- 7 months post op

5 months post-op: working though the swelling!

Well, I sat down to do a plastic surgery vlog and then realized that I look totally gross because I just got done doing a cardio, plus I have coconut oil in my hair. So… scrapped that plan. I will just type it all out instead. Hope it doesn’t get rambly.

Ok, I’ve blogged a bit about the swelling and how it tends to get worse when I work out. The issue is that the lymphatic system is interrupted in a tummy tuck and that takes a very long time to heal itself. The fluids don’t drain properly and they tend to accumulate in that area, especially after workouts- and doubly so since I’ve had to take it easy for so long, my lymphatic system is like “HUH!? SIT DOWN!”

Well, you know what lymphatic system? You can shut up. I don’t have pain with the swelling anymore (and I know now that I am not ready to do actual ab work still) so I’m working through the swelling. I’m keeping up on my exercising and trying to drink more water- which is hard in the winter!- and I’m going to kick this swelling’s ass!

Today I intend to head to the store for some lemons and pineapple- both are things that are supposed to help promote water to.. exit the body (read: they’re supposed to make me pee a lot) and I am not going to give up this time. And it’s hard! It is super frustrating to have worked out for 6 of the 7 days of last week and get on the scale and have GAINED a pound and a half- when up til that point, I hadn’t been working out at all and my weight stayed steady. Seriously, that is my biggest obstacle right now. I know that it’s water weight and I’m gonna get over that hump in a week or two and the weight will start going down but seeing an increase on the scale after that hard work? That was like a kick in the gut. Screw you, scale. You’re not gonna bring me down.

I’m a week shy of the 5 month post op and it’s time for me to get it in gear and meet some of my fitness goals. My long-term goal is to be ‘bikini ready’ by summer, so that’s about 25 pounds. Yikes. Short term, I’d like to lose 15 lbs by the end of March, as I have a big vacation coming up then. So.. let’s do this.

Before and after my mommy makeover

I thought it was time I showed some before and after comparisons. Even though these ‘after’ images are almost a month old now, I think they show the difference really well- and I haven’t had much change since then anyway so I haven’t taken new pictures since.

If you’re new to my blog, I had a ‘mommy makeover’- which is a tummy tuck, breast augmentation and liposuction on July 14th.
