P90X… coming back to life

Well, the good news is that after a three week battle with florescent snot, sinus headaches, sore throats, bad chest congestion, coughing, a round of antibiotics, albuterol inhalers, humidifiers, 3,000 mg of vitamin c per day, hot tea, and about 6 million boxes of kleenex… I’m finally feeling better!

Man.. that was miserable. Seriously. I haven’t been that sick since before Hailey was born. I’m still not back at 100% but… 80ish. That’ll do for me! I’m doing a fairly easy walk on the treadmill today (which is actually where I am updating from at the moment.. smart phones are kinda miraculous!) After this, I intend to do at least some of Yoga X. All this laying around.. and coughing.. and coughing… and coughing… has done my back in. I’m so stiff and sore! I’ve got to get my flexibility back.

And to top it off, I’ve been eating horribly- too sick and tired to cook means lazy food. And I feel just gross.

Well, no more, I say! I feel like I’m coming out of a fog. I’m alive again! I shall work out and cook healthy meals! And not watch 340 minutes of tv in one day. (Yes, I kept track one day… what?) I am fairly pissed that this happened right smack in the middle of doing P90X. So much for those 2 month pictures for now, I guess. Oh well, crap happens.

So.. I’m continuing on. I won’t be back to P90X schedule still for a bit, it is a little too intense for my lungs right now I think. No need to overdo it and get sick all over again. I’m just going to pace myself and work back up to it.

P90X… I AM STILL SICK OMFG.

Yeah.

I can’t get rid of this. I keep thinking I feel better and working out and then the next day I wake up feeling like I was hit by a truck again. My throat is sore again! I’m not even finished taking my antibiotics for strep yet! Sigh. I’m taking the day off of working out… it is Sunday after all… and if I don’t feel better tomorrow, I swear I’m gonna… I don’t know. Sit around and whine some more.

Ugh.

I miss my workouts.

P90X quickie

Start of week 7 and I’m still sick. I’m still hanging in there with diet and workout, except instead of core and cardio and yoga, I’m doing an hour on the treadmill because I think hanging upside down will cause massive snot explosions and that’s super gross. I’m still doing the program’s toning videos though. And Kenpo because Kenpo is FUN!

AND… I hesitate to claim this because what if it sneaks back on by the end of the week when I am REALLY supposed to weigh in… but..

I’ve lost 3 pounds!!

Finally more loss on the scale. The inches I’ve lost are super awesome but seeing the number go down on the scale is magical, no matter how much you tell yourself it doesn’t matter.

P90X- Week 6. Sickness & diet philosophy

Well, I’m sick. I think I have a sinus infection. I’m probably going to head to the doctor later today to get a prescription to kick this because it’s making me angry. I did my workouts the last two days but today I’m actually taking a day off. I’ll do workouts when I’m sick unless I’m nauseous, have a pounding sinus headache, or have bronchitis. Unless one of those three things is happening, I generally find that a moderate workout actually makes me feel better… but if I push it when I’m too sick, I regret it the rest of the day. Hopefully this will be the only day and I can get back to it tomorrow. I was due to do yoga x today but with the horrible sinus headache and pressure I’ve got going on, I can’t see myself doing a downward dog without snot going everywhere. (I know.. that was a super attractive thought!)

Other than that though, I’m still doing awesome. Once I am well again, I’m going to add some treadmill workouts into my schedule because I need more cardio, I think. The toning is awesome and it definitely helps burn the fat by building more muscle.. but muscle weighs more than fat, so you don’t see it on the scale so much. Not that it’s a numbers race because, quite frankly, who cares what the scale says if you’re in good shape. The thing is, I’d like to build some endurance through cardio. That will be excellent for the hiking we intend to do this fall. And, of course, I’m hoping to shed a few more inches if I add more cardio.

Now, diet-wise… here’s a philosophy I’ve had for some time. I’ve heard it said before that nothing tastes as good as thin feels. This is only true to a certain extent. Sure, thin feels great but some foods are damn tasty and I just don’t think that it’s fair to have to choose one or the other. So enjoy the naughty things you love on occasion and in moderation. Have an insane craving for nachos and a margarita? Have it. Once, not daily. Make it a special occasion. And then bring it harder at your next workout. No big deal! You can have your occasional indulgences and still be thin too. Depriving yourself makes you miserable, so don’t do it.

Again, I’m not saying that it’s fine to eat fish & chips, enchiladas, and bacon double cheeseburgers every single day. I try to limit myself to one “cheat” meal per week- which is something I learned back in the Body For Life days. Want something super bad? Hold off til your designated “cheat” day. Maybe it’s a mental thing, I don’t know. If you tell yourself you can never ever have chili cheese fries again, you’re going to want chili cheese fries pretty much non-stop. If you tell yourself you can have chili cheese fries on Saturday at lunch if you just get through this week of healthy eating, you don’t feel like you’re missing out on anything.

P90X-Day 31. Progress report!

It’s day 31! I thought I’d give an update on my progress, along with the pictures I’ve been promising.

Weight lost to date: Only 5 lbs.

Inches lost: 3 inches off waist, 1.5 off hips, 2 off chest, half an inch off each thigh. I’ve actually gained a quarter of an inch on each bicep… yeah. I’ll rough you up.

Sorry about the crap quality of the current pictures. They were taken with the photo booth on my computer instead of with my real camera, in front of a blank wall like my befores. I’ll try and get better ones for my 60 day progress… but these are plenty sufficient to show the changes in my body, I think!
